Purple pinstripes and dendrobium orchid boutonnieres distinguished the grooms from their groomsmen, who also wore navy suits, but with freesia boutonnieres.
Under an arbor with antique glass lanterns, the couple exchanged vows that they wrote themselves—and didn‘t share with each other until the ceremony.
Because they matched the color scheme, the couple served their guests summery pear martinis. Blue ribbon finished them off.
The green part of the color scheme was out in full force in the escort card display. The cards were pinned to locally-grown granny smith apples.
To highlight the veranda, paper lanterns hung around the edges, giving the party a festive feel.
An elegant, 40s-inspired design across the tops tied the menu cards in with the theme.
Instead of generic glass vases, the couple used authentically vintage hobnail milk-glass compotes for their rose, hydrangea, freesia, gardenia, and hypericum berry centerpieces.
The dotted design of the dessert mimicked the pattern of the centerpiece vessels. Icing ribbons and a dramatic sugar flower topper worked in the palette.
Kevin baked and frosted sugar cookies and stacked them to resemble the three-tiered wedding cake. The clear boxes showed off his handiwork, while the ribbon embellishments made them look polished.
After a decade of dating in New York, Kevin had pretty much given up on finding "the one." In a last-ditch effort, he joined Match.com; many of his friends had met their spouses that way, so maybe he would too. The first guy he met in person, Jeffrey, wound up being the only one he'd need to meet. Once they caught their first glimpse of each other, they were hooked.

A year later, they bought their first house together near Yale University, where Jeffrey was a medical resident. "Commuting from New Haven, Connecticut, into Manhattan takes me four hours a day. Yeah, that’s love," says Kevin. Though there was no official proposal, the couple knew they wanted to get married. They went from having a small courthouse wedding to a weekend-long event, with details inspired by the hobnail milk-glass vases that Kevin had inherited from his grandmother.
